DR ALBERT CARUANA

Continental Shelf Department

Dr Albert Caruana is currently the Director General of the Continental Shelf Department within the Ministry for Finance, a position he occupied since 2012. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malta and also holds a Master’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, University of London and a Doctorate of Philosophy from the same University with a thesis on Reservoir Engineering. He was awarded prizes from the Institute of Petroleum and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Dr Caruana has previously held various senior Government posts including posts within the Oil Exploration Department and posts related to the coordination of various major EU infrastructural projects. Within the private sector, he was also employed as a Reservoir Engineer with Texaco North Sea for a number of years and locally with Grand Harbour Marina as Chief Executive Officer. He also worked as a freelance consultant specialising in project management and environmental risk assessment.

Albert Caruana is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, a member of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers and represents Malta as a Director on EuroGeoSurveys.
