The understanding of geomorphological landscapes and their evolution is typically achieved through direct field observations and on site experience. However, physical, logistical and economic constraints often limit access to sites of geological and geomorphological interest. Recent technological advances, particularly in Virtual Reality have introduced Virtual Geological Walks as innovative tools for exploring sites of geological and geomorphological interest.

A series of Virtual Geological Walks are being developed to complement a geological guidebook “Geological Walks around the Maltese Islands”, produced by this Department and available for sale from bookshops.
